WHAT IS CHIROPRACTIC ?

What role does it play in the treatment of scoliosis?

Chiropractic is the art and science of treating the body without the use of drugs or surgery. If your Doctor of Chiropractic fills that drugs or surgery is needed he will refer you to the appropriate medical doctor.

Your Doctor of Chiropractic is a highly trained specialist (6 years of college) in the area of neuro-muscular problems. He is licensed in his state by the Board of Examiners and must complete extensive license renewal each year. His specialty is that involving the spine and its related structures.

Since Scoliosis is a spine related problem, it seems only natural that if you were looking for an alternative to surgery, that you would naturally look to your Doctor of Chiropractic.

Certain chiropractors have dedicated their practice to the treatment of scoliosis and have sought out special training on the non-surgical care of such.

We know that the nervous system controls everything in the body directly or indirectly. We also know that the nervous system starts at the brain and passes down the spinal cord and emits out openings along the spine called foramen located on either side of the vertebrae. There are 31 pairs of nerves that then go to every part of the body including your organs and glands. The nervous system feels and responds to all types of stimuli. A normal functioning nervous system is essential to health.

When the spine begins to curve, it effects the vertebrae, the discs, and the spinal nerves, which you now know can effect all parts of the body. Your chiropractor will help move these vertebrae back to their normal position taking pressure off the nerves and the things they supply. The use of a specially make brace will help keep the alignment and even help reverse the curve.

Your chiropractor will help you with the proper nutrition that is specific to scoliosis along with muscle re-education. Your chiropractor understands the disease of scoliosis and has the ability to work with your body to stop and reverse the curve and all the bodily functions that are effected by this disease.
